They have designs you can pick from and you can choose finishes and add your own needs or additions as well. There is a home builder designer in Vermont (Connor Homes) that builds new 'old' homes that you can purchase like a kit home (like they made years ago!). we were renting from them - thank God they let us rent without a contract to make us stay, and made provisions for if the cost of heating the home was too expensive we could just inform them we were moving 30 days notice and we could go.) My husband and I really really do love the look and the architecture of old homes. she hated to be there and refused to be there alone.

needless to say, they hurried up and finished packing and loading our stuff! The previous owners did nothing to update the utilities either so my oil bill was over $1500 a month in the winter and this is not an exaggeration! (I think the wife knew it was haunted, because she told me that she was never coming back to that house no matter what it needed to have fixed. it was not leaning, and no other explanation for why it just tipped. As it was, my toddler was injured on moving day when a book shelf waiting to be loaded by the movers was pushed down onto her in front of all of us. I had a toddler and a middle schooler to think about. I did not like the very bad mean and possibly evil ghost that lived there!!! I really really wanted to love living there, but I could not stay.

I voted new construction, because I lived in a very very old colonial home built around 1810 and even though I just loved the layout and the ambiance. Just starting to think about what I want to do when I retire! (I know, there's more to being a KD than just designing kitchens like we do here on GW - there's the whole "project" aspect - that's why I'm thinking about it!) That's a few years from now, so who knows what I will end up doing. I am also toying with the idea of becoming NKBA-certified and becoming a KD when I retire b/c I enjoy designing kitchens.

(I've seen three of their plans so far - two from their contractor and one from a Cabinet Discounters - and I so hope they don't use those.what are those people thinking?)

Their contractor gave them 3D views, so I thought I'd do the same. What prompted me to do it NOW, though, is that a friend asked me to work up a plan for their kitchen. So many people seem to be 3D visually oriented so I thought it would be helpful. OldBat2 - general GW use! While I've been using PowerPoint for years, I thought it might be nice if I can become proficient in a design product so I can use it quickly here and be able to show people what the design would look like.

I'm still struggling with things like how to get a sink bigger than 24", how to make a plate rack with no doors, etc., but I will eventually get there! There is also LIVE sub software available, which brings Unreal Engine core to the live rendering of the projects.Update: I purchased Architectural and am learning how to use it.

ARCHLine.XP is a solid professional tool with a big quantity of functions which are created in a very intuitive and easy to learn, easy to use way, however it is also a platform which a user can adjust for his needs and work. Multiple good features for the detailing and in 2D and in 3D, easy to use materials libraries and customization of anything a user wants to add to his libraries. I have used ArchiCAD and Revit + 3D Max in my career, however switched to ARCHLine.XP as it turned to be more intuitive software for the architects and designers: lower demand for the tech parameters, smooth work, ongoing significant improvement and development, features for Architects, Interior designers, Furniture Designers, MEP, Landscape designers, Urban planning (terrain work), very decent rendering and simulation, management features and all BIM provides (quantity take-offs, billings, team work, compatibility etc).
